Founder of Genies Center of Educational Excellence
With an effervescent personality, a relentless work ethic and a zest for life, Eugene puts as much passion into tutoring mathematics as he does being a husband, father, friend and mentor.
Born in Minsk, Belarus, he immigrated with his family to San Diego, California when he was 6 years old. He first developed an interest in math from his uncle, a renowned teacher in Belarus.
Their sessions in middle school helped Eugene excel in the classroom, and he gained an appreciation for his uncle’s patient and meticulous teaching approach. That approach quickly rubbed off – as a student at La Jolla High School, Eugene began helping fellow classmates with math in the school library.
When he obtained his driver’s license and a car at age 16, Eugene started an in-home math tutoring service and saw it grow each day through word of mouth thanks to excellent results from his students.
He continued to tutor while enrolled at the University of California-San Diego and founded Genies Center of Educational Excellence upon graduating in 2005.
Eugene understands the importance of helping students succeed in the classroom, but knowing he can be a role model and positively influence others for the rest of their lives is truly inspiring and motivational.
He lives with his wife, Masha, and two young children in La Jolla, California.

Eugene Itkin founded Genies Center of Educational Excellence in 2005 with a simple
philosophy – any student can and will succeed if he or she is willing.
Mathematics is a very difficult discipline, and it’s completely understandable that students may initially lack the desire and patience to achieve academic success. That’s why Genies concentrates as much on motivating students as educating them. In order to achieve consistent scholastic improvement, students must be shown why school is important and how the right decisions now can impact their lives forever.
When students see a clear path to success, they become motivated and develop the will to succeed. Then, there are no limits to what can be accomplished.
Genies emphasizes teamwork, and instructors do whatever it takes to spark improvement. Instead of memorization, helping students understand and apply mathematical concepts is at the core of daily teaching.
Genies is proud of its numerous success stories. Some have entered as helpless math students and exited as mechanical engineering majors at Ivy League universities. Others who at first are struggling to pass soon find themselves at the top of their class.
Plus, Genies has proven time and again that its methods can help students with learning disabilities accomplish their educational goals.
Genies Center of Educational Excellence is proud to be a premier tutoring service in San Diego County and strives to uphold and enhance that reputation every day.
